Toma is also a very well controlled type 2 diabetic who has found and uses information presented on this site. Relevant background and experience: Toma was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in February 2005. At the time of diagnosis his initial treatment was at the Seattle Veterans Hospital. (VAMC) Labs and diagnosis at the Seattle VAMC emergency room were; Blood glucose 570 mg/dl (normal is 70 mg/dl –100 mg/dl) HbA1C was 20.9 HbA1C is a measurement of glucose retained in the blood cells and indicates an average over a three-month period (normal is under 6) Triglycerides 1517mg/dl (desired readings are under 150mg/dl)
Other findings were severe diabetic ketoacidosis, severely dehydrated, very low on potassium, blurred vision necrosis, indications of onset of renal failure, cardiac abnormalities, arthritis, acid reflux, hemorrhoids, acute chronic bronchitis, symptoms associated with early onset of Alzheimer’s. Intense research on the Internet guided by a friend, who is also a nurse, resulted in a drastic change in diet that resulted in normal labs and a dramatic improvement in all other conditions. This improvement happened in a 90-day period between leaving the Seattle VAMC and a new physical required at the Denver VAMC when it was time to renew the prescriptions. Toma recognized he had information not commonly presented to new diabetics. Based on the difficulty of finding this information, he realized there was a need for a site that presented everything that had helped him in a clear, easy to understand format all in one place. His first attempt at this was www.NutriCoach.net followed by www.NutriCoach2.com. This site is the latest evolution in a crusade to help other diabetics. Other relevant background items:
The year with DUSTOFF resulted in 100% VA disability. (Permanent and total) One aspect of the PTSD is an exaggerated sense of right and wrong and a compulsion to take action where a need is recognized. In this case that may be a good thing. |
