I am honored and humbled to add Dr. Lakshmi K Shankhdhar to our advisory board.

Dr. Kshitij Shankhdhar M.B.B.S., Dip. Diab., DDM, PGDND

Diabetologist & Incharge, Lucknow Diabetic Foot Care Clinic, L.K. Diabetes Centre, Lucknow, India

Dr. Lakshmi K Shankhdhar, Diabetic-Diet-Secrets.com Advisory Board58 year old Dr. Lakshmi K Shankhdhar is a triple post graduate (Medicine, Radiology and Nutrition) physician who holds the distinction of establishing North India's still only exclusive Diabetes clinic at Lucknow by the name of L.K. Diabetes Centre. The clinic has a multidisciplinary approach to manage diabetes patients.

His unaided purely private clinic is housed in 2 premises with approximately 20 rooms and is rendering only primary level diabetes care with separate departments such as Nutrition, Diabetes education, Podiatry, pathology, radiology and Surgery.

The clinic has several baseline tools to render quality care to the patients such as software on diet which renders special diet plans for routine patients and for patients with complications such as obesity, renal failure, CAD, hyperuricemia, dyslipidemia, pregnancy and growing T1 diabetes children. The software offers all Indian menus such as North Indian, West Indian, East Indian and South Indian recipes with up to 7 days variability. The Nutrition department has raised 2 special diabetes diets; DIAL Diet (Diet Including Acarbose Liberalizes) and VILD Diet (Voglibose Inclusion Liberalizes diet) which have been presented to the American Diabetes Association and International Diabetes Federation respectively.

The full fledged Obesity Unit is equipped with Omron's Body fat analyzer to calculate body fat percentage and BMR

The Podiatric Unit of L.K. Diabetes Centre is most elaborate and has fetched many laurels. It is equipped with advanced instruments such as Biothesiometer and hand held audio Doppler for calculating Ankle Brachial Index. Podotrack for plantar pressure assessment is also available in the clinic. A unique, low cost yet effective offloading device, called "Samadhan System" with several guest presentations in many international Podiatric conferences was discovered by this unit.

The diabetes Education Unit has emphasis on both group education and individual education. The clinic has an improvised Studio to make video films for diabetes education and a simple concept of film making has been discovered by the unit. The concept was presented in the last ADA-2009 at New Orleans and has been accepted for Faculty Oration for ADA 2010.

The Podiatric Surgery Unit has a minor Operation Theatre is also provisioned for minor surgeries, required for day to day podiatric care.

·       Several new concepts with the capability to change diabetes care in the developing world have been evolved in this clinic and presented in ADA, EASD or IDF.

·       There are 4 physicians in the clinic, Dr. Lakshmi K Shankhdhar, Dr. Uma Shankhdhar, Dr. Kshitij Shankhdhar and Dr. Smita Shankhdhar along with a devoted team of paramedics.
